General Workshop Information
Instructional photo tours/workshops usually include morning and afternoon field photography, in-the-field instruction, and photo discussion/critiquing. There will be a mid-day break for lunch and maybe even a few war stories and discussion about the morning shoot.
Most tour/workshop costs do not include lodging, park entry fees, transportation, meals or other expenses like boat rentals and captain's fees (unless specified). Ground transportation with the leader is available on some tours on an extremely limited, first-come, first-served, pay-in-advance-basis.
Most of these trips are identified as instructional photo tours; sometimes I will photograph with you. I am, however, always available to answer your questions, offer guidance, and assist you with your photographic needs.
The workshops/tours are designed for the basic to advanced photographer. To make the most of your photography experience, please be familiar with operating your camera in manual mode. I teach taking images through the camera, as opposed to using post-production to modify the images. Because of this, we advise that you bring your camera instruction manual as there are often new techniques to try.
Deposit and Cancellation Policy
Please read the deposit and cancellation policies carefully before sending a deposit.
Unfortunately, we occasionally get cancellations just prior to the beginning of a tour. These cause financial hardship for the instructor and boat captains, hence, this policy. Please check your schedule carefully and seriously weigh your decision to join a tour/workshop before sending a deposit. That being said, do note that many of the tours/workshops fill up months in advance.
A $100, non-refundable deposit is required for all tours/workshops unless otherwise specified. Deposits are due upon registration. The remaining balance is due 30 days prior to the tour and NO portion of the balance is refundable. Please be aware that some trips may have additional non-refundable fees for items such as boat rentals, meeting room rentals, park fees, etc.
For those who pay 100% up front money when making reservations, there will be a 10% discount on photographer fees.
Mike Sloat is not responsible for cancellations due to medical emergencies. We highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. In the event that a workshop must be cancelled due to inadequate enrollment, all fees and deposits are refunded in full or may be transferred to another workshop within 12 months. Mike Sloat is not responsible for reimbursement of non-refundable airline tickets in the event of a workshop cancellation. Please check on your workshop status before making travel arrangements
In the event of inclement weather (fog, high winds, or severe weather) workshop may be cancelled with a full refund of fees. In the unlikely event that the workshop cannot take place as planned because of circumstances outside of Mike Sloat's control (ex: necessary boat or equipment is not operable, or park closures), we will attempt to modify the planned tour to fulfill your touring experience.
Mike Sloat Photography only accepts at this time personal checks or money orders.
